Options for managing your restaurant website's domain name
Domain Management Options
Your restaurant website needs a domain name (e.g., yourrestaurant.com) so customers can find you online. We offer two options for managing your domain name:
Client-Managed Domain
You purchase and manage your own domain through a registrar of your choice (like GoDaddy, Namecheap, or Google Domains).
How it works:
- You purchase and renew your domain name directly with your chosen registrar
- We provide you with the necessary DNS records to point to your website
- You configure these records in your registrar's dashboard
- You handle all domain renewals and management
Benefits:
- Complete control over your domain
- Ability to use the same registrar for all your domains
- No additional management fees from us
Service-Managed Domain
We handle the purchase, configuration, and renewal of your domain name on your behalf.
How it works:
- We purchase and configure your domain name
- We set up all necessary DNS records for your website
- We handle technical management and security
- Domain renewal fees are billed to you annually
Benefits:
- Hassle-free setup with no technical knowledge required
- We ensure optimal configuration for your Vercel-hosted website
- We monitor domain health and handle any issues
Domain Costs
Domain name costs vary depending on the extension (.com, .net, .restaurant, etc.) and registrar. Typical costs are:
- .com domains: $12-15 per year*
- .net, .org domains: $12-15 per year*
- Specialty domains (.restaurant, .menu, etc.): $30-50 per year*
Important: If we manage your domain, the actual domain registration cost will be passed on to you without markup, plus a $15 annual domain management fee. Domain renewal fees will be billed annually alongside your website renewal fee.
* If the selected domain is premium, you will be notified before purchase. Please note that premium domains usually have a much higher cost than standard domains, so you can decide whether to purchase it or choose another option.
Domain Transfers
If you already have a domain name that you'd like to use with your MyMenuSpotlight website, you have two options:
- Keep your current registrar: We'll provide the necessary DNS records for you to update in your registrar's dashboard.
- Transfer to our management: We can handle the transfer process for you (additional one-time fee of $25 applies).
Domain Ownership
Important: Regardless of which management option you choose, you always retain ownership of your domain name. If you decide to end your service with MyMenuSpotlight, we will help you transition your domain to your preferred management solution.
